CLOSE DISTANCE by JANNATUL MAWA
I first saw photographer Jannatul Mawa’s series floating around tumblr a few weeks back, and was instantly drawn at the sharp contrast of ‘upper class’ women and their maids. From even as simple a detail as posture, it can seem that both women in each image belong to completely different worlds.
Yet they are both inevitably bound together by the gender stereotype that considers the ‘home’ as strictly, a woman’s realm.
I love the capture of social diversity in each image that can open up an extensive dialogue about women, stereotypes, classism, domesticity… the list goes on!

What do you guys think? Do you see this work as just a statement about social class, or can we extend it to include such diverse (yet related!) topics?
