‘Men get raped and molested,’ should be a whole sentence. If you have to tack on the word ‘too,’ then you’re using the experience of male victims to silence females instead of giving them their own space.
We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls, ‘You can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful. Otherwise you will threaten the man.’ Because I am female, I am expected to aspire to marriage. I am expected to make my life choices always keeping in mind that marriage is the most important. Now marriage can be a source of joy and love and mutual support. But why do we teach girls to aspire to marriage and we don’t teach boys the same? We raise girls to see each other as competitors – not for jobs or for accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men. We teach girls that they cannot be sexual beings in the way that boys are.(x)
Within three days of becoming engaged, I had already been told that I shouldn’t wear my glasses, because they’re not bridal. I was told my cane wasn’t bridal. I was told my eye… was not bridal. And I realized that if I was going to be “bridal” in their eyes, I was going to have to change who I am. I am proudly disabled.

The amazing zig-zag fishtank installed in the call centre of the aptly named Freshwater Software company office in Boulder, Colorado. A former employee of the company, Christina Gillman, said on the eXtreme Aquatics Facebook page: ‘This office was primarily used as a call center, so the tanks provided great background/white noise for us to conduct business. ‘We had many types of fish, ranging from Cichilds, catfish, tiger fish, menos, and more. The tank, built in 2000, sadly no longer exists. Freshwater was bought out by another company which closed the offices in 2008. Via Twisted Sifter
